A New Messina Hof Location

A beautiful new restaurant opened in Richmond, Texas recently. It is the fourth location for Messina Hof Winery. The winery is located in an area called Harvest Green. This is a subdivision with a 12 acre Village Farm with farm fields, a greenhouse and even goats and chickens. Residents of Harvest Green can use a plot to grow their own fruits, vegetables and flowers. The farm is owned by the homeowner’s association but they host cooking classes and farm tours that are open to the public. The cooking classes charge a fee per participant but the 20 minute farm tours are free. They also host a Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.

The new Messina Hof Winery is a prime location that boasts an ample parking lot that surrounds a state of the art building within lies a world famous winery as well as a world famous restaurant.

Everything we saw upon entering was beautifully completed. The parking lot was large and well-lit with plenty of spaces. The entrance to the restaurant has a unique water fountain made from wine barrels. There are plenty of tables, inside and outside under a nice cover.

As we entered, we were immediately impressed with the tasteful surroundings. The building is beautiful with well-appointed decor throughout the space. The staff greeted us in a welcoming and friendly manner.

We stood in line for about 5 minutes for a table. Since the weather was cooling off from the day, we opted for a table inside where we could get appetizers and meals for us and the children. We plan to return soon earlier in the day for a full wine tasting.

We sat down and ordered a different wine for each of us so that we could taste more wines while the kids ate their dinner and we munched away on appetizers and dinner.

All of the wines we tried, we enjoyed. So much so, that we purchased wines to take home. We drank the Private Reserve Chardonnay, with tastes of oak and butter; Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, with blackberry flavors and vanilla notes; Private Reserve Tempranillo, high in acidity boasting bold flavors. We also tried the Sparkling Almond wine, tasting like an almond wedding cake then the Private Reserve Malbec, with spicy flavors and dark fruity tastes. The other wines we tried that evening were the Private Reserve Petit Verdot, tasting of a sweet green spice, like sage; the Paulo Primitivo, which was a gorgeous deep dark red full-bodied wine. We also enjoyed the Black Label Premium Blend which is a perfect blend of red wines with hints of chocolate and tobacco. All in all, each wine was well made and just superb. We liked them all so much that we couldn’t pick one favorite!

The restaurant was busy but this was their first regular Saturday evening service since they opened. Plus, it was the first weekend after the 2021 Texas Snowpocalypse or the 2021 Texas Snowmegeddon, with many families anxious to get out in the real world again after being without water and power for days the week before.

Overall, I would highly recommend the new Messina Hof Winery in Richmond, Texas. It is located in a prime growth area, plenty of parking, delicious food for adults and children and many choices for flavorful, award winning wines for every taste. You won’t be disappointed. In fact, this may just be my go-to spot for weekend entertaining from now on!

Cheers and Happy Wine Tasting!
Susan
